Company Profile

Harwich International (HWH) is one of the UK’s leading multi-purpose freight and passenger ports with excellent road and rail links to the Midlands, London and the South East. It is ideally located for North Sea freight and passenger traffic to and from Scandinavia and the Benelux nations, offering first class Ro-Ro, ferry, container and bulk operations.

Harwich International is a member of Hutchison Ports, the port and related services division of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited (CK Hutchison).

Built as a rail ferry port in the 1880s by the Great Eastern Railway, Harwich International has developed and expanded over more than a century into a highly efficient, modern, multipurpose port.

The port, originally named Parkeston Quay after Great Eastern’s chairman Charles Parkes, was privatised in 1984. Strategically located in the southeast quadrant of the UK, Harwich International is on the southern side of the River Stour. In 1998, the port was acquired by Hutchison Ports.

Harwich International recognises that responsible and efficient management systems play a vital role in our business and are therefore proud that these have been formally recognised and are accredited to ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental), ISO 45001:2018 (Health & Safety) and ISO 50001:2011 (Energy).
